Final Day of Conference

Final Day of the Conference, tomorrow early, but not too early, we fly home.

Our Brother Aaron writes the following:

Wow what an awesome final day to the Men’s Foursquare Leadership Conference here in Esteli, Nicaragua. Over one hundred men heard the messages from three team members today.

Juan spoke first on being the “Light” of Christ in this world. His testimony was quite powerful – you can tell that Juan is a man who has a deep desire to share God’s truth with other men.

I had the honor and privilege of speaking second. I spoke on “Harmony” in the home and in the church. A key to harmony in the home is affirming our spouses. I had the men at the conference spend a few minutes building one another up in Christ, as often we forget about how awesome each one of us is in the eyes of God.

Tom Simonson spoke last on “Victory” explaining how we as men need to put on the full armor of God, if we are going to have success in this life. Tom also gave every one of the men a one-year reading plan in Spanish, that also serves as a bookmark, to help them remember to read the Word every day.

The conference concluded with the gift of a book on how men can be leader in all areas of their lives. It will be sad to leave, but every one of the men on this trip poured their hearts out – every man gave their all for the sake of the Gospel. The Good News was proclaimed and men’s lives were forever changed. We look forward to hearing the mighty things God will do in the coming year in the lives of these Nicaraguan me, both in their families and in their churches!

Our Brother Tom writes the next report:

It was a joy to see many familiar faces as I spoke to the men of Nicaragua today. I was fortunate to be able to provide a brief recap after each session. This gave me a chance to work out the jitters before I shared the message at our final session! More importantly, it gave me special insight into the words the Lord gave each of our team members. The heartfelt words that each shared were so interwoven, only He could have been the author! Experiences were shared, tears were shed, and we were bonded together through the common language we share through our God our Father. I'm ready to come home, but can't wait until next year...

Our work, HIS work through us in Nicaragua is now done. So many more stories and blessings than we can write. Now pray for our travel mercies.

Lights Out!!!

Greetings from Nicaragua

Sorry this blog is late, the reasons will be revealed in a moment.

The time came to start our formal presentations. After an introduction of the team by Butch and of course prayer Matt kicked us off on the topic of Unity. His presentation went overwhelmingly well that many came to the front for continued prayer.

Soon we were a little behind and we were asked to limit Lon's presentation on Purity to finish at an exact time as dinner was waiting. Here is Lon's report:

What a night and what a difference twelve or fifteen minutes can make. The time allotted for my task had to be shortened because a meal was coming up right behind me. I decided to abandon my script altogether ad speak on the subject extemporaneously. The men were really engaged. Later, one of the Pastors, with tears in his eyes said to me “Thank you”, for that message God spoke to my heart, he meant that message just for me. God knows what he is doing. Lon

OK so now are in the midst of our presentations and the lights go out!!! Not just in our conference area but he whole town. Did that stop us? No!!! By the light of three very small flashlights, we continued. Not a man walked out, we could not see much except perhaps beating in expectation of what would come next. Here is Dean's report:

What an incredible experience! Under different circumstances, the changing agenda could have dampened the energy in the room. Not with this group of Godly men! even though at times I couldn't see them, and my talk followed a full meal that took us into the evening, the rousing response to Gods word was energizing. The room was dark, but the Holy Spirit illuminated the hearts of the participants! Dean.

Hmm, the Lord is surely playing laughing with us as tomorrow's first topic to be presented by Juan is..... you guessed it!!! "Light". It will be followed by Aaaron on "Harmony" then Tom on "Victory". Keep sending prayers...

The day starts early with devotions. We are anxious to start the work the Lord sent us here to do and at the same time realizing that our work began the moment we said, "Lord, here I am, Send me" (Isaiah 6:8). In the morning we visit the site of the church we began constructing last year and pray with Pastor Douglas that the Lord will provide what they need to finish. After that we wash up and change clothes to head to Foursquare Church Number 1 where Pastor Butch (here called Pastor Bush" delivers a strong message.

Tomorrow our formal presentations to more than 200 men some who will travel for more than 150 miles to hear us. Matt will be the first up who will speak on Unity, followed by Lon on Purity and then Dean on Love. Please pray for these three men and the rest of the team that the Lord will grant us HIS words.

Nicaragua, we have arrived

While the majority of you were tucked away in the comforts and warmth of your homes seven men woke up very early. Some may have bid a quiet good bye and prayer to their families, others prayed with them for a moment and then drove the quiet dark streets to the airport to the first part of a journey called by God. Before six this morning these magnificent seven men they met for their flight to Nicaragua.

Magnificent Seven they are Aaron, Butch, Dean, Juan, Lon, Matt and Tom not because of who they are but because of who the know, who they love and who they follow. They follow Our Lord Jesus and his call to bring his message to the men of Nicaragua. Hundreds of books tucked away in their luggage but more important the words of our Lord tucked away in their hearts. The words that they will lay upon the hearts of Church Pastors and Leaders during the men's conference they have planned for months but the Lord planned since before time.

After an unscheduled "equipment check" stop in Orlando, Florida they arrived in Managua perhaps a bit tired by the journey but eager to start. By the grace of the Lord they are in Nicaragua, sustained by your donations and prayers.

Shade-Gardens

Celebrating the fourth year of the shade-gardens at Thu Tu Ke Leone Community Centre in Soweto with Director Johann Lephepelo. She gives thanks for all the advice and encouragement she has received over the years regarding the gardens. "The gardens help us. The need is growing and people need healthy vegetables for their health."

Part of the spinach grown here is sold to the community to help sustain these gardens.

Momma Johann says to all Harvest of Hope supporters, "Thank you and keep up the good work. You are hope-givers."

Giving the "Grannie Garden" a little facelift. It's called the Grannie Garden because the grandmothers who are tending to this garden are raising food for their grandchildren. The grandchildren's parents have died of HIV.

Last Night with South African Team-mates

What a beautiful, sacred way to end our time with the Body of Christ tonight. We taught on the first three parts of the Tabneracle and after repentance, we offered a washing of their hands and anointed their hands for service. We left them a "servant" towel from or Sevolution service. It was powerful!

Pillow Case Dresses

We ministered to people living in the city dump this morning. It was too complicated to distribute dresses individually, so we left over 100 dresses with Pastor Genia to distribute at Christmas. Pastor Genia was thrilled to have these beautiful dresses, for these girls and young moms haven't anything as nice as these dresses. In December it will be very hot, so the dresses will be a double blessing.

Sack Packs

Installing Gardens at Brammfischerville

This morning in corporate prayer our team asked the Lord to multiply our time so we might put two gardens up in Brammfischerville. God answered our prayer in ways we didn't expect.

The lord met us at the garden site with Immanuel and his army of thirty neighbors. Immanuel lives in this community and provides Godly leadership.

After a morning of work, laughter and music we had one tunnel up, bags installed and the next tunnel up as well. We took a lunch break and upon return, the community had already installed the bags in the second tunnel and were planting. At the end of the day God had knit our hands and hearts together as one team.

Sunday's Service

Sunday was a full day of ministry starting with service at Covenant Word and ending with a crusade in a community where a new church has just been planted. The drama team ministered powerfully at both services. Click here to watch the skit on Youtube.

We celebrate the 4 salvations yesterday, however, what gave us great joy was that a lady who received Christ on Saturday as we distributed oranges attended church hungry for more of Christ.

Dorah's Arc Shadegarden

Last Day of Medical Clinics

The team spent our last day holding a medical clinic and praying for people house by house in extremely poor community, La Chriza. One of the recent graduates of the Bible Institute has planted a church in this unreached barrio of 5000. Amazed that we treated 244 patients out of this 12x12 church and extra tarp. Again, the gratitide of the people was overwhelming.

When we ended the day with prayer over us by Pastor Ruben Amador and his wife,Pastora, they commented, "We are always praying for the people at Grace Covenant, who we admire so much. In our spirit's we know each of you."

Before we started packing our bags to head home, some were moved to tears as we shared with other our God experiences.

Here's how some in the team answered: Because I served on this mission's trip I...

...have more Jesus in me.
...am praying aloud.
...return home filled with joy.
...know I am able to hear God's voice
...know that even though it's difficult to step out of your comfort zone, it's worth it ...Was accepted by everyone on this team and I was healed of the hurt of being rejected by some other groups of peers.
...Know for sure I'm called to be a missionary
...Saw humanity through God's eyes.

2nd Day of Medical Clinics

Believing God to touch this young man who is deaf and mute. He had recently fallen off a bicycle and we think he had a collapsed lung. We paid for him to get to the nearest town to get a chest x-ray. Even in his pain, he had the sweetest countenance which touched all our hearts.

The people at today's clinic were grateful. No mission team has ever been to Pueblo Neuvro. Their medical and spiritual needs were great. The anointing on the evangelism area was amazing seeing. 154 people said "yes" to following Jesus.

Everyone loves a new toothbrush and we've blessed 571 people with one so far. Everyone gets one after prayer.

1st Day of Medical Clinics

As the team reflected on the day, here were some comments:

"It was humbling to see people stand patiently for hours, in hopes of receiving medicine to relieve their pain. I was convicted of my level of impatience."

"It was inspiring to watch people respond to the gospel as we use the faith bracelets." (FYI - As of today 232 people have accepted Christ as Savior, including a very prominent municipal judge.)

"The youth on our team have been amazing servant-hearted Ambassadors for Christ."

Sac-packs and Pillowcase Dresses

Little dresses are being distributed in Nicaragua thanks to an amazing group of sewers.

Thanks to all the senior saints that made these adorable sac packs. The are going to be shared with child living in the dump by Pastor Douglas and his wife Rosario.

VBS-2nd Day

We got to serve 300 children at our second day of VBS. It's hard to believe that 7 years ago we partnered with about 7 or 8 inexperienced children's ministry leaders and today we served with 29 such leaders, many of whom have graduated from the children's ministry certication program. All the leaders received "Service Awards" at VBS, which was a great honor for them.

Regardless of their age, all the kids wanted to pose in their new sunglasses (VBS craft).

Lot's of "Jesus Love" was shared today. Not sure who was blessed the most...the children or the team? Church tonight and first medical clinic starts early in the morning.

After challenging arrival day, the team spent several hours in prayer and worship.

As we worship this morning singing together "You are holy oh so holy" we sensed movement in the heavenly. Our confidence rose to a higher level. We know that we know, "God has a plan, and we're right in it."

Packing the pills that cleared. We are halfway to getting rest of medical bags cleared. Just have to take to Ministry of Health for inspection...yeah, cup have full. We're putting our confidence in Jeremiah 17:7 "Blessed is the man who trusts in the Lord, whose confidenc indeed is the Lord.

Nicaragua Team Arrived Safely

The team arrived safely in Managua this afternoon. However, there have been complications & communications issues between the country's health dept. and customs to release the medications taken for the medical clinics. One team member will have to stay overnight in Managua with Dr. Salinas and Edgar, the translator, to see if a fax arrives in the morning at the airport in order for the medications to be released. Tent City in Tabarre

Distributed at least 60 dresses in a tent city in Tabarre. Every girl and mother was prayed over. Joy and laughter when receiving a new dress is universal. Thanks to everyone who has contributed to this project. The prayers that have accompanied the dresses we believe have set destinies towards God. Scripture says "the fervent prayers of the righteous accomplishes much."

In a tent city near the church, the men repaired tents and put on fresh tarps, which were greatly appreciated.

Starting another beautiful work day in Jeremie. Hoping to get lots completed on the church/orphanage today.

Teaching the Haitian men new skills is an exciting part of our assignment. It's great to see two churches working together to advance the Kingdom.

When we are with children, we are building the orphange, for we know we can serve in what are challenging conditions one more day. Their futures are the why.

The ladies joined the men in Jeremie this morning. We arrived safely but our bags will not arrive until tomorrow. That was an interesting twist.

Thursday afternoon, after a flat tire in the rain, our ladies team partnered with Pastor Brian McDonald, with Cross to the Light Ministry, in a tent city of well over 5000.

With his team of 14 young Haitian leaders enrolled in the school of ministry providing security, we distributed about 90 dresses; but the beautiful thing is, each girl's destiny was called forth in personal prayer. Then, with the crowd gathered, Pastor Brian shared the Gospel. What a glorious afternoon.

Psalm 41:1 says "Happy are those who think about the poor.". We are all so happy right now.

We just finished our Morning at King's Hospital (Methodist Hospital). Dr Morquette, who is a surgeon here and has a ministry headquartered in Gastonia, gave us a history of Haiti that was mesmorizing. (Photo of team)

When sharing prayer requests for the nation, Dr. Morquette admonished US churches and organizations to show Haitians how to have a thriving country again by helping them develop plans they can impliment. And, while supporting in this way, encourage people to put their faith in God not people.

My heart was smiling as we listened, because having watched Foursquare here over the last year, I see that is what our church at large is trying to do with all the sustainable projects being established at the churches. Still we need to pray for even more people to bring training for creative enterprises.

The hospital has an orphanage with 22 children, but they also feed 110 children each day. The dresses once again were a true blessing and we left many with Dr. Morquette and his wife to continue to distribute.

All the men chose to set up tents and sleep outside due to the heat. Little did we know we would be awaken with a storm in the middle of the night but we all survived the mangos falling overhead and rain.

Our first day was great we visited the orphanage and the kids blessed us with songs of welcome. Additionally, as we started our work we had several observers that have a high anticipation of the completion of building. Throughout the day Haitians gazed into windows in the heat to watch the Americans work. Can't wait to move the orphans into their new home. It will be 5-star facility. Praise God!

As we gathered Wednesday night to give thanks to the Lord for His guidance and grace, we asked ourselves this questions... What amazed us today?

Whether it was our simple skit about Jesus raising the little girl to life (Matt. 15) or the Bible Study at the new church, the Haitians "believed" what we said about the Lord. We watched the power of the Gospel captivate. Thank You Holy Spirit.

There is an indescribable power in something as simple as a dress, made in love and given in love.

The schools in the refuge camps and in the churches lacked electricity and supplies, but the children were so glad to be in school. An education is precious here.

The newly erected church in Tabarre is a symbol of hope, and a blessing to the community.

Recap of Our 3rd Day

We were with the 55 children at the Foursquare orphanage
in the coastal town of Jeremie today. The children sleep on sheets
on concrete floors, have very little food and their clothing is
worn thin like paper. Yet, when they sing, joy fills the air.

First Day in Haiti

What a difference 5 months makes. Arriving here was much more orderly than In July. As we drove to the base camp, the first thing a returning visitor notices is how clean the streets are. Mounds of garbage are gone. Some of the international government agencies are putting Haitian to work cleaning. The results are impressive, for the streets look more orderly which breeds a sense of confidence.

Dinner at the base house: food - Haitian bean dishes. A team of 15 from the Beaverton OR Foursquare church are here to put a water well in at the church. This fresh water will be made available to the community. What a blessing!! Makes for a full base camp, think all but 2 bunks are full. Shower is cold, but toilets are working.

Leave in the morning for Les Cayes. There are 2 new churches to visit there. 4-5 hour drive so we depart at 5:30 am to assure we get back by dark.
Word is that where we are going tomorrow is like going back 100 years in time.

Should be interesting.

2nd Day in Linefork, KY

The team has completed another day of work at the Sonshine Center. It was really another blessed day. They accomplished a lot that Ms. Mary had on her list for them to do. They finished mowing all the grass, cut trees, mulched all the flower beds, winterized the pool, washed her vehicles, serviced the lawn mowers and finished lots of other small projects she wanted them to do. They had a huge taco dinner on Friday night. But their most important job this weekend was loving and fellowship with Ms. Mary and the children. It is awesome just to be able to be part of their lives. The team members have been very blessed to be part of this trip and blessed to know how it has touched the lives of the teams that come here to serve.

The team arrived in Linefork around noon yesterday. They hit the ground running. They started on lawn maintenance, weed-eating, cutting trees and brush, and mulching. The team also cleaned the church from top to bottom. It was a great experience for all involved. They had a great time working together. The team is sure they will have another blessed day today.

Haiti team Update - Friday

The tour of duty for Gideon's Army is coming to an end. We are sitting in the air conditioned comfort of the American Airlines departure lounge in Port au Prince.

With a short day before us, we divided the team this morning - 4 to an orphanage to attempt to restore power and possibly repair a well pump and 2 to procure and prepare material for a water collection project for Pastor Rosenelle's home. We were successful in all but the well pump repair. As you might be able to tell, two simple commodities that we easily take for granted, water and electricity, are not so simple to come by here. In fact, base camp had been on a 21 day "street power" fast until last night. Generator and battery only.

We are clean but tired, joking but pensive, ready to see our families, yet missing our new families. We have become bonded in a friendship that will last a lifetime by way of an experience that has been priceless. We are the ones most blessed by this experience.

Haiti Team Update-Thursday

Thursday was action packed in a different way. We were a "mobile" unit yesterday. We took a road trip to two orphanages and a pastor's home. The first stop was an orphanage where the first Haiti mission team painted and constructed bunk beds last June/July. There are now 9 beautiful boys and girls there. They all just wanted to play with us, hold our hands (and glasses and cameras!) and be hugged. They needed a loving touch. It was easy to provide it. Next we went to the pastor's home on which the last Haiti team built a roof. We are putting together and plan to improve his water collection system. Afterwards, we sampled some local cuisine (Yes!) as we drove a short (about 7 miles) trip that took over 2 hours. And you think Charlotte traffic is bad. :). We ended up at another orphanage with about 120 kids. We arrived at their dinner time. We saw God's presence as the each folded their hands to pray before they ate. It is impossible to describe the conditions they live in. Poverty beyond imagination. But, they too just wanted a loving touch. We did a little repair work with many helpers. We played soccer, pushed them in swings, practiced our Creole and simply loved on them. We already miss seeing them again.

We even crammed in some sightseeing and shopping. Go figure. We are all doing well. Tired but content. Not ready to leave, but ready to come home.

Greetings from Haiti. We had an incredible day today. Along with our Haitian partners, we completed 13 church pew/school desks and 5 chalk boards. I promise we actually worked, but it was hard because our friends wanted to do it themselves! They are embracing the process. The photo is the "fruit of our labor".

The team is awesome. We are all well. Tired, but well. Thank all of you for the letters of support and encouragement. "Mail call" is one of our favorite parts of the day.

God has big plans for us tomorrow!

We hit the rack early last night with varying degrees of success, yet everyone woke ready to get after it. We had an awesome day today! WE are not here to produce things, to build things. We are here to create a process so that the Haitians can produce/build things. We worked side by side with Stevens, Robinson, Pierre and 3 others. We showed them how to build a church pew/school desk. They are learning the process. It was an incredible experience. We are back at it again tomorrow with our new Haitian brothers. I'll send pictures of the process and the product!

The Haiti team arrived safely in Port-au-Prince earlier today. God blessed them with seamless logistics.

An update from team leader, Greg Wylie:

We have had a blessed day today. We had flawless travel from Charlotte to Port au Prince. All of our supplies and luggage arrived with us as well. We made it to base camp to be greeted by a delicious lunch. Afterwards we did a walking tour of the "neighborhood". Scenes that are hard to process, yet as we walked we made dozens of new friends as young boys began to follows along. We "talked" with them, holding their hands or our arms around them. We were the blessed ones.

Pray for our assignment, our families, each team member and this country.

On Our Way Home

On our way to Managua, we rejoiced that we have welcomed 156 souls into the family of God. Almost every one of these people was personally talked to, so we were blessed to watch the transforming power of salvation on many of their faces. Gloria a Dios!!

Before leaving church in Jinoetga, we were humbled that they honored each of us with a gift to thank us for the opportunity to serve.

Traveled 2 hours from base today to a small town no US medical team has ever been to. The people waiting in line when we arrived were the poorest of the poor.

The medical team served 369 patients, almost running out of medicines. The illnesses and skin conditions were some of the worst we've seen in several years.

Alongside our Nicaraguan brothers and sisters,
we individually led 78 individuals to the Lord!

A few leaders from the Foursquare church in Jinotega joined us and it was such a blessing, because of the number of people we needed to pray for and share the Gospel with.

While being treated, we discovered this 3 month old girl didn't have a name. The mother gave us the privilege to name her -- we chose Ruth Grace. She then completed the birth certificate.

Sunday's VBS

VBS was wonderful! Again the rain held off until children were loaded on the bus to return home. 247 children were blessed today.

There was bible story time, but some time for fun as well.

One of the Nicaraguan teachers who teaches worship dance prepared something special for VBS.

Praying over 40 plus children who said they wanted to serve as leaders in the Church. One little girl named Janel, at 8 is the children's worship leader and leads a small group of 9 girls. Her passion for God was humbling.

Saturday's VBS

Today we do get to hold VBS and will lengthen our time with children until 3pm. We knew we had a long day ahead, but we were filled with anticipation.

VBS rocked today. 253 children had the time of their lives. Our Nicaragua teammates were fantastic and so well-prepared. For being in a new area, we were impressed with their energy and enthusiasm. 23 children gave their lives to Jesus and we thank the Lord for holding off a downpour until all the kids had been loaded on the buses.

We also enjoyed a meal prepared by ladies of Foursquare Church 3.

Friday required us to put "flexibility" in action. The school where we were supposed to hold the first day of vbs declined to honor their permission, so we drove an hour and a half to Esteli to do a clinic. From noon to 5 we treated 250 patients.

During today's clinic, we had two special prayer times. One lady had a blood sugar level of 400. After prayer it cam down 100 points. Another lady has terminal cancer, but we rejoice that she accepted Christ and now will never taste death.

29 people accepted Christ today,so even though the VBS surprise change happened, the day had eternal significance.

Thursday's Medical Clinic

We were blessed to be able to treat 232 patients at a new Foursquare church in Sebeco. However we rejoice in the 9 people who opened their heart to Jesus. We had to hold the clinic outside, for there is only land, no sanctuary yet. Praise God, the rain held off till everyone was treated and prayed for.

The prayer area was alive with the presence of God at Thursday's clinic in Sebeco. People were hungry for a touch from the Lord. When asked, "What do you want Jesus to do for you today?" He responded, "To change my life." After more conversation, he received Christ and it was evident the change had begun.

As one group prepared bags of medicinces this morning,another group held a teacher training for serving with us at the VBS. It was exciting to see leaders from two towns filled with anticipation. At the conclusion of the training,their was a time of consecration and asking the Holy Spirit to fill us with with more of Him so we can lavish thr children with His love.

Bunk Beds Are Finished!

Writing scriptures on each bed was the highlight of our day so far.

Yeah, we finished all 6 sets of bunk beds today, complete with sheets and nets. We were also able to provide them with dishes and table and chairs so they can eat as a family.

Yesterday was a long day, but very productive. The team split in half, with half going to the new orphanage to build bunk beds and paint and others working on roof at Pastor's home. One of our goals at the orphange was to get the four children there to smile. The day before our hearts were so heavy with the sadness in their eyes. Well the Lord heard us. The orphange is completely empty, but for 2 chairs and 2 mattresses. So, when we started playing cars with them, coloring, and bouncing a ball, the smiles were big. By tomorrow night, they will all have a bed to sleep in and hopefully a table and some chairs. The roof team worked hard and will finish on Tuesday. They enjoyed hearing all the neighors roar everytime there was a score in the world cup game today....they said it would be so quiet and it would sound like they were in a football stadium. The team arrived safely in Haiti. Last night they enjoyed a great time of worship at the service at Pastor Bellande's church. The ride home was a little rough because of the potholes in the roads. The team says they are bigger than any of the ones we have in the U.S. This morning the team packed supplies and split into 2 teams. One team is going to a orphange with 5 pre-k children to build bunk beds and paint bedrooms. The other is going to a pastor's home to finish putting on a tin roof. A previous team reconstructed the home and built trusses for the roof, something the community had not seen before. Lots of them drew sketches of the trusses. The team is doing well, hot but good. There's not a lot of change to the area except roads are worse and washed out by the heavy rains. The team sends their love to their families and will post the next time they are able.

Today we had a wonderful time in San Miguel. Everyone had a lot of fun shopping in the beautiful town. We ate lunch at a beautiful restaurant. We have all made it back safely to San Luis Potosi. We are looking forward to a great night of sleep. Tonight we were surprised with a Mariachi band as a going away present from Jim and Lisa. It was a perfect way to end our time here. Tomorrow we will prepare for our travels and say our goodbyes. We will see you all in North Carolina.

It was a whopping 84 degrees today (our hottest day yet) with a slight breeze and no humidity... do you wish you were here yet? The team feels that SLP is our home away from home. This morning we went to the orphanage for the childrens store. Each child is rewarded with points to spend on prizes at the store. The children purchased hair gel, toys, hair bands, candy and more. It is very rare for these children to open item from the original packaging. Many young boys purchased items for their sisters instead of themselves. It is selfless acts like these that humble us. Today we saw the children in their school uniforms. Many people from Grace Covenant have made it possible for these children to go to school by providing the uniform. This afternoon we finished painting the chapel and it looks muy bonita (very beautiful). Some girls on the team were able to sort a mountain of clothes for the community thrift store. This store is a huge ministry outreach in the neighborhood. Tonight we drove out to the outskirts of SLP and up a mountain to lookout over the entire city of SLP. It was a beautiful sight to see at sunset. While we have been here we have seen the culture of this place from the poorest of poor to the blessed. Tomorrow we will make a trip to a town called San Miguel. We hope to enjoy the last full day we have here. Thank you for your continued prayers for tomorrow and our travels on Wednesday. Our team is truly a family who have all fallen in love with the city of SLP and the free loving people who live here.

We had an amazing breakfast with donas (donuts) to celebrate Father's Day. Even though we are not able to speak with our father's today we have reflected on the things our fathers have done for us. We are grateful for their love. We are also grateful to our Heavenly Father for all He has done for us and what he has purposed us to do. Today we went to a Home Church where Jim and Lisa attend. The team sang two worship songs in English for the Church. One of our students was able to give their testimony and we know God moved through them. After church we packed the trailer and our lunches and took off towards the pueblo, Guadalupe Victoria, for a VBS and clothing distribution. These people were so excited to have clothes. Most of them don't have an opportunity to go shopping because they can't afford the bus fee to SLP. Their smiling faces and pure joy made us all grateful for what we have. Tonight the guys on our team ate some hot chili peppers and it entertained our team. The guys say the burning is worth the bragging rights back in the States. Today our team worked together in unity along with Jim and Lisa and our translators. We are moving and living as one. The presents of the Holy Spirit among us is amazing. Watching the teens grow has been transformational. We will all come home as new people both tan on the outside and more beautiful on the inside. Tomorrow morning we will go back to the orphanage for a very special event. The orphans get points for rewards and tomorrow they get to spend their points at the orphanage store. The joy on their faces will be priceless. In the afternoon we will finish painting the chapel at the orphanage. The bright yellow paint is much more cheerful than the beige that was before. The children already love it and it is not even finished.

Last Night we did not have access to the internet so we apologize for the delay. Yesterday was our third day of VBS at the orphanage. The team has connected with the children and it has been amazing to watch everyones interactions. Everyone is learning more Spanish and the children are happy to see us improve. We think it is entertaining for them. At VBS we spoke on the truth that Gods Word is True. It has been great to hear members of the team share devotionals and tell us of their own personal time in the Word. Everyone is so focused on the Lord and the task and calling set before us. The weather here has been beautiful and seriously could not be any better. After VBS we went to the Mercado (Market) and did some shopping. We are encouraging each other by doing something called Secret Angles and secretly surprising each other with gifts and encouraging notes. It was nice to see the team purchase little gifts for their secret angles. Last night we went into downtown SLP and we shopping and toured the Plazas in the historic downtown. It was beautiful and fun to get out and see the city. We ate out for the first time last night and everyone enjoyed the food. Jim and Lisa are so wonderful with the team and the locals here. It has been an honor to see them here and work alongside them here. We were able to rest this morning and sleep in a little before church. Today we will go to Church and then afterwards we will go to Guadalupe Victoria which is a pueblo about an hour outside the city of SLP. There we will have a VBS and give out clothes to the men, women and children. It is going to be a wonderful day. Thank you so much for your prayers for us.

It was another wonderful day here in San Luis Potosi. Our second day of VBS went perfectly. Today we had about 40 children at the orphanage for VBS. Many of the children were in the same clothes they were wearing yesterday. Their hearts are so beautiful and the love so freely (a term that is being used around here often). Transformation is happening in the orphange spiritually and physically. We finished the first coat of yellow paint in the chapel today. We will finish on Monday with a second coat. Each team member has become a professional painter and everyone is working hard. The team is growing so strong in relationship with each other. It will be a bond that will last. Jim and Lisa have been amazing to us and we are so greatful for them and the impact they have made here in SLP. Our translators are becoming our best friends. Today many of the children in the orphanage gave many team members a Spanish lesson and in return we taught them some English. Tomorrow will be our third day of VBS and in the evening we will take a trip into downtown SLP. Our God is a great God. We thank Him for his goodness, grace and mercy to us. What a wonderful day. The guys started their day an hour early because they forgot to set back their clocks. The smart got girls got enough sleep. Today we had 51 children at the orphanage for our first day of VBS. We have all fallen in love with these young children ages from 4-17. The young ones are so sweet and beautiful and the older ones are so excited to have us. We began to paint the chapel at the orphanage yellow or you could say amarillo since we are in Mexico. The youth are bonding well with each other and already we have witnessed so much personal growth. We are enjoying the Mexican food and the wonderful culture. Tonight we took a trip to the OXXO a mexican version of a 7/11. Tomorrow we will have our second day of VBS and continue to paint the chapel. Between our dramas, puppet skits, spanish worship, crafts and games we know the children here are being impacted greatly. It is already hard to leave the orphange just for the night the children cling to us but we ensure them we will be back Hasta Manana (see you tomorrow). We can already report one healing. Praise be to God may be he glorified in everything we do. We will report back tomorrow night.

We are all here in San Luis Potosi!!! We have had a wonderful day of travel and just enjoyed our first Mexican meal. We are still getting settled and will be going to the orphanage in the morning to start our first day of VBS. Everyone loves this wonderful city and we are expecting great things this week. Nicaragua Spring 2010-Final Day

Today was our final day on the field. Time for one more shovel-full of dirt, one more shovel-full of tears, of prayers, salvation stories, of love, of hope, of faith, of joy though sadly also a shovel-full of good byes.

After an early morning breakfast we made our way to that field we have grown to love, the field where trenches and bare rebar columns mark the spot where soon His word will be preached. We worked for a few hours. Some were sent again to the streets and houses to bring His word to the houses in this neighborhood of Esteli, Nicaragua called Los Angeles. Salvations, healings, restorations and rebirths were witnessed by the team as the clock slowly ticked counting our final hours.

We shared lunch with Pastor Gabriel and his family at his humble church located in the front room of his house. Then we made our way back to the field where we shared communion with members of his congregation, construction workers and the many others who came. This would be the first communion served there. The Pastor gave a message that from his church many will be sent to preach the gospel. This was a prophesy also given by Lon to the Pastor days earlier.

After a long good bye filled with many tears we all went inside the space to be occupied by the church. Each of our team members took the spot where a corner or a wall is soon to be and we prayed. Soon Pastor Gabriel's clear voice and those of other church members rose to heaven...... the Lord smiled.

By the time you read this we will be either on our way home or have returned to our home church. We have thousands of memories to share with you, thousands of your prayers to be thankful as you supported us. We ask however to please, please keep on praying. Many times the most difficult part of a mission trip comes after the missionaries have returned home and we feel the void left at not seeing our newly found brothers and sisters and the impact we have made on not just others, but our own lives.

Nicaragua Spring 2010-Construction Site

God blessed us today with many workers in the field, preparing for what will surely be a tremendous harvest for His kingdom. One of the day’s highlights was the feeding of over 50. Lunch was taken on the church construction site, thanks to Chief Chef Jacquie, who prepared PBJs (peanut butter and jelly sandwiches) and provided bags of potato chips for the team, local construction crew and neighborhood boys who always show up to help. Chuck gave the devotional on site, explaining how our team always takes time before each and every meal of the day to feast on the Word of God and nourish our soul as well as our bodies.

After lunch, Tom and Michael broke away from construction to organize a soccer game for 24 kids in a nearby field. Following the game, the children combed the field picking up trash and filling three large yellow lawn and leaf bags. The message conveyed during this activity is that the church property is Holy Ground and that we, children included, should help keep it clean.

Juan stepped up the evangelism today as well, sending two teams of two each along with a translator into the local neighborhood to reach out to the lost with the love of Jesus and pray for the needs of the saved. One team prayed over a 4-year-old boy crippled by cerebral palsy and who had recently developed pneumonia. The family had no money for medicine much less the help of a doctor, so the mother was relying solely on God to provide healing.

Another mother and her family didn’t attend church and hadn’t in many years. She wasn’t ready to commit her life to the Lord but readily welcomed us in to her dirt-floor home and was open to hearing the Good News. The team prayed over her, her grandmother and children that the Holy Spirit would move in their hearts and lead them to Christ. We knew He was already working on the family or we wouldn’t have been directed there.

Leaving the site in the late afternoon brought a few tears, as tomorrow will be our last day on the mission field here in Esteli. We have seen many come to the Lord. We have seen many moved to tears by His mercy. We have seen many realize that he is indeed our Lord of Lords and King of Kings. The tears shed were indeed tears of joy.

You have made known to US the path of life; You fill US with joy in Your presence, with eternal pleasures at Your right hand. Psalm 16:11

The evening ended as always with prayers. We ask that you step up to the same. A few members of our team are feeling the inevitable aches and pains of hard labor. We ask that you pray for continued physical strength and health for all team members as tomorrow we step for one final time during this trip onto that Holy Ground.

Nicaragua Spring 2010-Sunday.... day of rest or....

Praise the Lord, today is Sunday. No shovels, no dirt, no pushing wheelbarrows, no....., only kidding. It has been a real joy to work with these great people, but it is a even more of a joy to worship with them. Their faith is so simple yet so powerful.

We visited a local church this morning. Even though most of us did not understand the words they sang we were very familiar with the presence of the Holy Spirit that we felt. It was so refreshing and overwhelming.

Chuck and Mike both shared their testimonies and did an outstanding job. So much they touched with their words of conversion, salvation, faith and love that it prompted many other members of their church to share theirs. What awesome faith the Nicaraguans have!!!

After service, we stopped at a city center restaurant and enjoyed an outstanding Nicaraguan meal. Tonight we will be attending services at another church. This church is located in the home of Pastor Gabriel for whom we are working to raise a new House of the Lord. Butch will be bringing his message tonight. We are looking forward to another tremendous time of worship with the loving faith of Nicaragua.

Nicaragua Spring 2010-Saturday Construction

Day 2, Saturday, was another marvelous sunny day in Esteli, Nicaragua as we arrived at the church construction site around 7:30 in the morning. Immediately the neighbors came out to greet use and the children flocked around.

Jacquie Wheeler got an early start with the kids making salvation bracelets… a huge hit with the children as the Holy Spirit led 11 of them today to place their trust in Jesus Christ and accept Him as their Lord and Savior. As the men continued to dig the foundation of the church, Jacquie’s group of neighborhood kids removed another seven or eight plastic lawn and leaf bags full of trash from the church property and surrounding area.

Much progress was made again today as Grace Covenant team and local construction crew continue to manually prep the foundation, filling the footers with rock, sand and gravel. On the four corners, concrete (mixed by hand, of course) was poured and smoothed and the rebar columns were set in place.

Despite afternoon temperatures probably in the low to mid 90s, at least it felt like it, Al managed, with the help of many smiling and happy local teens manning wheelbarrows, to move mountains of solid black dirt as hard as concrete away from what will be the inside side of the church to the perimeter of the field to be hauled away later in dump trucks.

,Despite a heavy day of construction work, a couple of Grace folks and a translator, managed to get out in the neighborhood mid-morning for some house visitation. In addition, that afternoon Jacquie and Michael Astorino organized a game of baseball for some two dozen children who were more than happy to show off their fielding and batting abilities. By the way, Jacquie pitched and Michael was behind the plate. Many runs were scored.

All in all, another beautiful day that God made, and so wonderful to be doing His will for His Kingdom, His people and His purpose.

Nicaragua Spring 2010-Saturday Men's Conference

Perhaps Friday’s Convention blog was a bit wordy, but there are not enough words to express how the Holy Spirit has shown up at the Men’s Conference. It is Saturday afternoon and the men’s event has just ended. The men are headed home with more of God with them. This was expressed to us several times over that the men are leaving full of God’s word and new revelations.

After an early breakfast we moved into a worship service that truly shook the ground. Worthy of praise was the worship team made up of youth on fire for God.

Vic Jones opened the day’s teaching with a message that challenged every man with having servant’s hearts and hands. He opened their eyes on how to treat their wives with love and respect. The men responded very well to Vic’s message.

We moved the to session 3, developing the habits of a servant leader. This session went overtime as Butch led it; the men responded to the call to holiness as all,, over 100 men, came forward for prayer – prayer for change in their lives.

At lunch, we were joined by Juan and Chuck who dropped by to verify we were doing what were sent to do.

Finally we closed the conference encouraging the men not to allow the enemy to steral their new life. We passed out all the books on “Leading like Jesus” to an overwhelming outpour of their gratitude.

Nicaragua Spring 2010-Beginning Mens Conference

The Men's Conference

Today we began the first day of the Men's Conference "Lead Like Jesus". We met the morning of the conference with Pastor Ruben who seemed a little cautious about the three men who were to offer instruction to his Pastors and church leaders. We each gave him an overview of our presentations and by the time he left a little later he was feeling confident about us, still praying mind you but more confident.

At 4:00 PM, 3 hours before the scheduled we met at the Conference Center. Amazing, there were men already waiting for it to begin. We soon discovered how hungry the men of Nicaragua are for discipleship.

The greetings and smiles on their faces soon caused the barrier of language differences to be broken. These men were making a genuine effort to come to each of us with a greeting of "hello and God bless you for coming". What a beginning when Pastor Raul Davila shared his testimon with me. He was a Captain in the Sandinista Army. He had traveled in several socialists who worked very hard at making him a communist. But, God had different plans. Once home he lost everything to the Contras, but soon found Jesus. Since that moment he knew he was called to pastor and has become so. I spoke to him about how much commitment I saw in him and was moved by his statement "he paid a high price" but found Jesus through it. I congratulated him for choosing the One who had paid the price. Wow!!! You would have thought he won the Publishers Clearing House sweepstakes. He hug me and told me how encouraging that was to him.

Service began with the most vibrant & exciting praise & worship group I've ever witnessed led by Luis, a local Pastor.

When we finally took a count of the men at the conference we found 105 men plus Pastor Ruben and others for a total of 115 people. All close together in a non air conditioned room. You may think as you want, but the Holy Spirit came and refreshed the spirit of every man.

I opened the conference with words of encouragement and thanks for allowing the team from Grace Covenant Church to come to Esteli, Nicaragua and be a part of this. I challenged the men to listen intently and take something away from the convention that would change him for the Glory of God.

Tom gave the men encouragement to develop their hearts to become servant leaders. Pastor Ruben closed the night by challenging the men to expose their weaknesses and prepare to experience victory over them. The response of the men was awesome. Saturday morning we begin at 7:00 AM. Nicaragua Spring 2010-First Day

Whewwww.... Temperature a little over 90, but as high as the temperature was, our spirits were higher. Last night our first evening ended with a Consecration Service led by Juan. Setting apart holy from unholy. Cleansing and dedicating our hands to the Lord's work. We prayed and anointed each other that the Lord would just use our hands, our minds, hearts and all we are to His purpose.

Today was our first day in construction. As always we are impressed by how much they do with what little they have. The church is situated in the middle of beautiful field, surrounded with vistas of mountains. What an excellent setting for shovels, picks, trowels and other tools being used to build a house for the Lord.

Pastor Gabriel who will be heading that church joined us along with about a dozen other local men in starting the foundation. Rebar was bent, holes for the columns were dug and cement was poured. Impressive work by Lon, Al and David who at that age when they should be resting were working hard and sometimes harder than the young. Praise the Lord for their strength.

The Mens conference team is at the first evening session that is to start later. We already know that dozens of men had already arrived from near and far to hear and be blessed by the messages. we are anxious to know all that happened and we will inform you on that tomorrow.

We are tired but we are filled with Joy that a God who has already has bestowed so many blessings on us would send us here to receive more.
